Kupukka Graphite Project
Kupukka Graphite Project
The Kupukka graphite deposit is located in Siikalatva, North Ostrobothnia, on the east side of Highway 4 (Figure 1). Good transportation connections and a relatively short distance to the coast, where a large battery industry is planned, provide a good basis for a possible graphite mine.
The exploration results so far at the Kupukka graphite site are promising. In the 2013 historical drillings in the southern end of the exploration permit area, the following intercepts were obtained in hole RAN-2:
74.65 m (22.00-96.65) @ 3.73% Cg, including:
24.00m (40.00-64.00) @ 5.31% Cg and 14.65m (82.00-96.65) @ 6.16% Cg. (Cg = graphitic carbon)
The graphite concentrations found in the drillings in the nearby area (GTK, 1993) are also significant, 12.9 m @ 6.9% Cg. In local boulders, the concentration is at its highest 18.25%. The flake size of the graphite is ≤ 1.5 mm and its quality has been proven good by Raman spectrometry. More info here. See also news page.
